Going to So What Music Festival in 2016, I was introduced to a lot of new bands and the one that stuck out most to me was the band Ghost Key. Finding out they were from the Chicagoland area and meeting their vocalist Austin kept this band very close to my heart over the next year. Fast forward to 2017 and Ghost Key has put out what I consider one of the best and most influential hardcore albums in recent memory. Ghost Key is one of the hardest working bands in the genre and “If I Don’t Make It” is going to take the band to new heights as they move forward with their music career.
Another band that has been signed to InVogue Records, Ghost Key consists of its members Austin O’Brien(Vocals), Chris Bayless(Guitar), Stephen Wegman(Guitar), Ryan Murphy(Bass), and Andrew Buchanan(Drums). From the opening fast pace track that is Death In The Family, the tone is set for an album that will make you think and expand on thoughts you may have on this world we live in. The album touches on loss, depression, and dealing with the constant thoughts of the past that everyone that listens to this album can relate to and will feel different emotions all throughout. With songs like Indecision, Solstice, Dying To Live, and my personal favorite Downpour Ghost Key has put out an album that every fan of heavy hitting hardcore music will be proud to own in their CD/Vinyl collection. Each song on this album brings a different energy and each song has a melodic tone that will get every room moving and singing along in the coming months of 2017.
As I mentioned before, one of the hardest working bands in the genre and I truly believe 2017 is going to be the year Ghost Key takes over the hardcore scene as the torch is passed to them by bands leaving the scene. Ghost Key caught my attention with their stage presence and their display of raw emotion as they play each song they have created and they will catch your attention too. InVogue Records has signed themselves a gem of a band that is destined to do great things for hardcore music. Catch Ghost Key on the tours listed below and also purchase “If I Don’t Make It” at the InVogue Records Merch Store.
